Description: The Pizza Man (IL) B , G, foaled March 25, 2009 (English Channel - I Can Fan Fan, by Lear Fan) travels west for the second time and wins the 12 furlong $250K Grade II Hollywood Turf Cup over the 'firm' course at Del Mar November 26, 2015. Jockey Mike Smith settled The Pizza Man well off the pace set by Southern Freedom and Class Leader. The Pizza Man saved ground around the first two turns and ran his race from towards the rear of the field as they raced up the back stretch. Southern Freedom showed the way up the backstretch and into the far turn. As they turned for home Southern Freedom still had the lead, however, The Pizza Man angled to the outside and Big John B widest of all came with a flourish. The Pizza hit the front with a 1/16th to go and bounded away to win by 2 lengths over Big John B. Power Foot came through between horses to get the show 1/2 length further back. The Pizza Man is a homebred of Midwest Thoroughbreds. He has a race record of 16-2-2 from 26 starts and he has earned $1,898,537. The Pizza Man was third in the event last year behind Finnegans Wake.
