Description: Shared Belief (KY) DK B/, G, foaled February 15, 2011 (Candy Ride (ARG) - Common Hope, by Storm Cat) stamped himself as a Kentucky Derby candidate by running off with the 1 1/16 miles $750K Grade I Hollywood Futurity at Hollywood Park December 14, 2013. Jockey Corey Nakatani had to sit patiently as he tracked the frontrunner, Brother Soldier. Candy Boy made a strong move heading into the far turn to take the lead and Nakatani let Shared Belief run his own race. Shared Belief ran past Brother Soldier and engaged Candy Boy at the 1/4 pole then drew off to win as much the best. He was 5 3/4 lengths ahead of Candy Boy at the finish. It was another 1 1/4 lengths back to Tamarando who finished 3rd. Track announcer Vic Stauffer made his last Grade I call at Hollywood Park (Hollywood Park closes for good after the last race December 22, 2013) a thrilling one calling Shared Belief a 'superstar...the Road to the Kentucky Derby might be through the jungle...' referring to owner Jim Rome's Jungle Racing LLC and partners KMN Racing LLC, Hollendorfer, Litt, Solis II and Todaro. Shared Belief is undefeated win 3 wins and has earnings of $451,200. There are no Kentucky Derby Points assigned to the Futurity, but he will have plenty of opportunities in the months ahead.
