Description: Princess of Sylmar (PA) CH , F, foaled March 27, 2010 (Majestic Warrior - Storm Dixie, by Catienus) entered the first turn second to last after being bumped hard at the break in the running of the 1 1/8 miles $1 million Grade I Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs May 3 2013. Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith then moved her steadily forward, she began to pick off her foes coming out of that first turn. She advanced along the outside saved a bit of ground rounding the far turn, came four wide to catch Beholder at the 1/16 pole and went on to win by a 1/2 length. Beholder was bothered before the start resulting in jockey Garrett Gomez dismounting momentarily, but she broke well and tracked speedster Midnight Lucky to the far turn. Tried to get past her but Midnight Lucky still had more to give. Beholder finally got past her moving to the 1/4 pole and she looked to be getting away from the field. However, Princess of Sylmar was full of run coming down from the outside to get up in time. Previously undefeated Unlimited Budget had herself in good position down the lane to win this but she wasn't good enough, she ended up 2 lengths further back in 3rd. Princess of Sylmar is now 5 of 7 and has earned $827,220. She was bred by Ed Stanco and is owned by King of Prussia Stables. She is being trained by Todd Pletcher. Drawing by Daily Racing Funnies ®.
