Indy) has been racing against top caliber company and finally gets her stakes and Graded victory in the 1 1/16 miles $150K Grade III Marjorie Everett Handicap at Hollywood Park May 18. Jockey Joe Talamo let the front runners go at it while he sat back in the second flight. Open Water responded to his urging rounding the turn, came 4 wide into the stretch, caught the leaders at the 1/8th pole and went on to win by a length over Lady of Fifty. It was 4 1/2 lengths further back to I Dazzle in 3rd. Open Water has won just 3 races in 14 races but has been in the money 5 other times, and her last 9 races have been in Graded company. She has now earned $270,750 for her owners Southern Equine Stable LLC, Smith, M. and Whispering Oaks Farm LLC (Castille). Open Water is being trained by Eric J. Guillot.
