Description: Mokat (KY) DK B/, F, foaled February 22, 2013 (Uncle Mo - Flashy Frolic, by Premiership) gets her first stakes victory in brilliant fashion with a victory in the 8 furlong $200K Grade II San Clemente Handicap over the 'firm' turf course at Del Mar July 23, 2016. Jockey Kent Desormeaux and Mokat broke alertly from the nine post and dropped down to the rail for the run around the Clubhouse turn. Belvoir Bay showed the way into that turn and up the back stretch and Lady Valeur was tracking her in second. Mokat found clear sailing along the fence and was in fourth as they entered the far turn. Belvoir Bay left room for Lady Valeur along the rail and as they were turning for home, gave way, and left an opening for Mokat. Mokat stormed through, charging past Lady Valeur and went on to win by 3 3/4 lengths. Stays in Vegas found running room along the rail down the stretch and missed the place by 3/4 lengths.
