Jockey Javier Castellano had him perfectly placed stalking the pacesetter, Eighttofasttocatch. Eighttofasttocatch was allowed easy fractions but when JC asked Last Gunfighter to pick it up rounding the far turn he responded and ran down the leader in the final furlong and quickly drew off to win by 4 1/4 lengths. Eighttofasttocatch easily held 2nd, 9 1/4 lengths in front of Richard's Kid in 3rd. Last Gunfighter has been in the money in all 10 of his starts, his last two wins were in Grade III company.
