Description: Hoppertunity (KY) B, H, foaled May 7, 2011 (Any Given Saturday - Refugee, by Unaccounted For) gets his ticket punched into the 2016 Breeders' Cup Classic with a classic stretch drive victory in the 10 furlong $1 million Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park October 8, 2016.  Jockey John Velazquez and Hoppertunity tracked the pass along the fence set by Protonico as they raced up the back stretch.  Effinex pressed the pace, engaged Protonic after six furlongs, and had a narrow advantage as they turned for home and raced down the stretch.  Hoppertunity came off the rail as they turned for home and gained the lead in deep stretch to win by 1/2 length over Effinex.  Protonico was 2 1/2 lengths further back for the show.  Hoppertunity is 6-6-4 from 22 starts and he has earned $3,562,675.  He is owned by Karl Watson, Mike Pegram, & Paul Weitman, bred by Betz, D.J. Stable, Kidder, J. Betz, and Robenalt and he is being trained by Bob Baffert.  The JCGC is a Breeders' Cup World Championships Challenge 'Win & You're In' Series race and Hoppertunity gets a free entry into the 2016 BC Classic November 5th at Santa Anita.
