Description: Hoppertunity (KY) B , C, foaled May 7, 2011 (Any Given Saturday - Refugee, by Unaccounted For) returns from a foot injury, which knocked him off the 2014 Kentucky Derby Trail, to win the 1 1/8 miles $500K Grade I Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs November 28, 2014. Hoppertunity returned from a nearly 7 month layoff recovering from a bruised foot to run 2nd in an AOC (no tag) at Santa Anita October 29 to signal his readiness. Jockey Martin Garcia flew in from his Southern California base to ride Hoppertunity in the Clark. Hoppertunity tracked Constitution (also on the comeback trail from a hairline fracture of his front right cannon bone in April) until they turned for home and went at it down the long Churchill Downs stretch. Hoppertunity gained the advantage nearing the 1/16th marker and Protonico was making a bid on the outside. It was Hoppertunity with a late surge to get to the wire to win by a 1/2 length. Constitution was 1 1/4 lengths further back in 3rd. Hoppertunity was one of the favorites to win the Kentucky Derby after his victory in the G2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park March 15th. He ran 2nd to California Chrome in the Santa Anita Derby before being sidelined. Hoppertunity is now 3-2-0 from 7 starts and he has earned $950,675 for his owners Karl Watson, Michael Pegram, and Paul Weitman. He was bred by Betz/D.J. Stable/Kidder/J. Betz/Robenalt. Hoppertunity is being trained by Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert. Drawing by Daily Racing Funnies ®.
