Description: Finnegans Wake (KY) B , H, foaled April 24, 2009 (Powerscourt (GB) - Boat's Ghost, by Silver Ghost) get his first Grade I victory win a come from last to first finish in the 9 furlong $500K Woodford Reserve Turf Classic over firm going at Churchill Downs May 2, 2015. Regular rider Victor Espinoza let Finnegans Wake run along far back early as Sky Captain went on to set the pace. Sky Captain was joined by Umgiyo around the Clubhouse turn and Chocolate Ride who broke tardily went up to chase them from 3rd. As they traveled up the back stretch Jack Milton was coming along nicely along the rail in 4th and he angled to the outside as they entered the far turn. Seek Again moved into contention around that turn along the inside and found a seam between horses to make a bid for the lead at the top of the stretch. Finnegans Wake was coming fast and swung to the far outside for the stretch drive. Sky Captain still had the lead in deep stretch, Seek Again was surging between horses, Jack Milton was moving well outside of those three, and Finnegans Wake was flying late on the outside. It was Finnegans Wake with his head down at the wire to get the win by head over Sky Captain. It was a length back to Jack Milton in third and Seek Again was a length further back in fourth. However, Sky Captain came over on Seek Again and was disqualified and placed fourth. Finnegans Wake is now 7-4-3 from 29 starts and he has earned $1,402,975. He ran off three in a row beginning with the G2 Hollywood Turf Cup Stakes at Del Mar last November. He then won the G2 San Gabriel Stakes at Santa Anita in January. He followed that with a win in the G2 San Marcos Stakes at Santa Anita in February. Finnegans Wake win streak was broken when he finished second to Ashleyluvssugar in the G2 San Luis Rey Stakes in March at Santa Anita.
