Description: Exaggerator (KY) DK B/, C, foaled February 5, 2013 (Curlin - Dawn Raid, by Vindication) wins the 9 furlong $1 million Grade I Santa Anita Derby at the Great Race Place over a 'sloppy' track April 9, 2016. Jockey Kent Desormeaux and Exaggerator broke alertly and they settled into stride well off the pace set by Danzing Candy. Danzing Candy got away from the field while setting quick fractions of 22.15, 45.24, and 1:10.12 for six furlongs. At that point Uncle Lino moved up to challenge as they rounded the far turn. Exaggerator gained interest and gained on the leaders rapidly. At the top of the stretch Exaggerator went on by Uncle Lino, Danzing Candy ran out of gas, and quickly drew off to win by 6 1/4 lengths in a final time of 1:49.66. Mor Spirit gained ground from running in fourth up the back stretch and third around turn to get the place 2 1/4 lengths in front of Uncle Lino. Danzing Candy was another 4 3/4 lengths further back for the fourth spot. The first four finishers earned Kentucky Derby Points on a scale of 100-40-20-10. Exaggerator is 4-2-1 from 9 starts and he has earned $1,671,120. He is owned by Big Chief Racing, LLC, Head of Plains Partners LLC, Rocker O Ranch, LLC et al., and he is being trained by Keith Desormeaux. Drawing by Daily Racing Funnies ®.
