Description: Cristina's Journey (KY) B , F, foaled February 6, 2012 (Any Given Saturday - Toss the Feather, by Dixie Union) jumps on the 'Road to the Kentucky Oaks' leader board first with a decisive win in the 1 1/16 miles $200K Grade II Pocahontas Stakes at Churchill Downs September 6, 2014. Jockey Miguel Mena broke Cristina's Journey fast out of the gate and took the lead down along the rail as True To You pressed her up the back stretch and into the far turn. Take Charge Brandi came along the outside to join those two as they rounded the bend but True To You couldn't keep up as they turned for home. Cristina's Journey shook off Take Charge Brandi and started to draw off as they entered the furlong grounds to win by 2 1/4 lengths. Pangburn came running late to beat Milehigh Butterfly for 2nd by 2 1/2 lengths. Cristina's Journey won her first race at Ellis Park, a MSW on July 27 and is now 2 for 2 and she has earned $153,159 for her owners at Tim Newcomer's GSN Racing. Cristina's Journey earned 10 points toward a starting berth in the 2015 Kentucky Oaks, the Pocahontas is the first race in the Kentucky Oaks Prep Race schedule.  The Pocahontas is also a Breeders' Cup World Championship Challenge Series race and Cristina's Journey gets all her starting fees paid into the Juvenile Fillies.  She was bred by Phil Needham, Judy Needham & Bena Halecky and she is being trained by Dale Romans.
