Description: Constitution (KY) B , C, foaled February 11, 2011 (Tapit - Baffled, by Distorted Humor) ran his undefeated streak to 3 with his courageous victory in the 1 1/8 miles $1 million Grade I Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park March 29, 2014. Jockey Javier Castellano kept his mount on the rail as he tracked the pacesetter, Wildcat Red. General A Rod went up to challenge Wildcat Red entering the far turn but could not get by that one. Constitution was biding his time along the rail and favorite Cairo Prince was mounting a challenge on the outside. Inside the 1/4 pole Wildcat Red left a narrow opening along the rail and Constitution quickly drove through it. General A Rod could not keep up and Cairo Prince flatten out in the drive. It was Constitution on the inside and Wildcat Red slugging it out the length of the stretch. Wildcat Red was determined but it was Constitution prevailing by a neck at the wire. It was 1 1/4 lengths back to General A Rod in 3rd. Constitution is 3 for 3 and he has earned $649,350. The Florida Derby was his first stakes attempt after his MSW and an AOC (no tag) earlier this year. He also earned 100 points towards his date with destiny in the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby the first Saturday in May. Constitution was bred by Grapestock LLC & Fox Hill Farms. He is owned in partnership with Winstar Farms and Twin Creeks Racing. Constitution is being trained by Todd Pletcher. Drawing by Daily Racing Funnies ®.
