Description: California Chrome (CA) CH , C, foaled February 18, 2011 ( Lucky Pulpit - Love the Chase, by Not For Love) was awarded the Horse Of The Year Eclipse Award for his outstanding performances on the race track in 2014 at the 44th Annual Eclipse Award presentation held at Gulfstream Park January 17, 2015. California Chrome wears the purple silks with the acronym 'DAP' in green. Although, officially, it stands for 'Dumb Ass Partners', we like to refer to them as 'Good Ole Boys'. Steve Coburn and Perry Martin bought Love The Chase for $8000 and bred her to Lucky Pulpit for a fee of $2500. They employed Art Sherman as his trainer. A true rags to riches story, California Chrome had 3 wins from 7 starts as a 2 year old. Aside from his MSW win in his second start, he won the Graduation Stakes at Del Mar in July 31. 2013. Alberto Delgado was the rider in 5 of his 7 starts at two. California Chrome's last race as a two year old was a victory in the King Glorious Stakes at Hollywood Park December 22nd with jockey Victor Espinoza. The King Glorious began a six race win streak for Chrome and Espinoza. At Santa Anita they won the California Cup Derby at January 25, 2014, the G2 San Felipe Stakes March 8th, and the G1 Santa Anita Derby April 5th. Team California Chrome then won the G1 Kentucky Derby May 3rd, the G1 Preakness Stakes May 17th. California Chrome ran 4th behind Tonalist in the G1 Belmont June 6th. He was 6th behind Bayern in the G2 Pennsylvania Derby at PARX September 20th. On November 1st, back a Santa Anita, California Chrome and Victor Espinoza finished 3rd in the G1 Breeders' Cup Classic, beaten a long neck by Bayern and Toast Of New York. California Chrome and Victor Espinoza finished off his 3 year old season with a victory in the G1 Hollywood Derby November 29th on the turf at Del Mar.
