Description: California Chrome (CA) CH , C, foaled February 18, 2011 (Lucky Pulpit - Love the Chase, by Not For Love) bounded over the firm turf course at Del Mar to win the 1 1/8 miles $300K Grade I Hollywood Derby November 29, 2014. Regular rider Victor Espinoza broke California Chrome alertly and went right to the front. Sawyer Hill came along before the Clubhouse turn and took over the pace. California Chrome galloped along after Sawyer Hill and went by that one with ease as they came out of the far turn and straightened for home. California Chrome went on to win by 2 lengths over Lexie Lou. Talco closed some ground along the rail to get 3rd, one length further back. It was California Chrome first race on a turf course it proved to be no obstacle. This homebred of Perry Martin and Steve Coburn is now 9-1-1 from 16 starts and he has earned $4,222,650, California Chrome is most certainly to win the 2014 Vox Populi Award and is on a couple of ballots for the end of year Eclipse Awards. He should certainly get the Eclipse for Outstanding 3 Year Old Male and very possible take down Horse Of The Year. California Chrome is being trained by Art Sherman.
