Description: Birdatthewire (KY) B , F, foaled March 21, 2012 (Summer Bird - My Limit, by Wagon Limit) gets her first Grade I victory with an off the pace flourish to with the 7 furlong $300K La Brea Stakes at Santa Anita Park December 26, 2016. Jockey Mike Smith and Birdatthewire found themselves well off the pace after breaking slowly. Hot City Girl set the pace as they raced up the backstretch and rounded the far turn. Cavorting got into striking position as she moved up along the rail. However, Hot City Girl sprinted clear at the top of lane and appeared to be on her way to a front running score. Birdatthewire advanced steadily after a half mile and moved up along the outside around the bend. She came wide into the stretch and was set down for the drive. Birdatthewire caught Hot City Girl in deep stretch and won by a 1/2 length. Cavorting held the show 1 1/4 lengths further back. Birdatthewire is 4-2-1 from 11 starts and she has earned $569,090.
