Description: Bayern (KY) DK B/, C, foaled May 3, 2011 (Offlee Wild - Alittlebitearly, by Thunder Gulch) was sent to the front and never looked back in winning the 1 1/8 miles $1 million Grade II Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing September 20, 2014. The field was more interested in keeping track of California Chrome than getting after the speed horse. Jockey Martin Garcia was able to set early fractions of :24 and 47 4/5 before he accelerated around the turn and into the stretch to set a new track record in 1:46 4/5. Bayern drew off to win by 5 3/4 lengths. Tapiture got the place by a head over Candy Boy in 3rd.  California Chrome was made the favorite even though he has been off since his 4th place finish in the Belmont Stakes in June, he finished in 6th while being let up the final 1/16. Jockey Victor Espinoza said in a post race interview 'This race, it set it up for the next one.' Bayern has now won 5 of 9 starts and has won $1,639,680 for his owner, Kaleem Shah.
