Description: Bayern (KY) DK B/, R, foaled May 3, 2011 (Offlee Wild - Alittlebitearly, by Thunder Gulch) capped his three year old year with a wire to wire victory in the 10 furlong $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita Park November 1, 2014. Jockey Martin Garcia broke Bayern out of the gate and Bayern broke inward to knock Shared Belief into Moreno, then after a 1/16th he got clear and found the rail and continued that path around the Clubhouse turn. Toast Of New York gave chase in 2nd and California Chrome took up a stalking trip in 3rd on the outside.Bayern continued to show the way up the back stretch and around the far turn. As Bayern gunned for the wire Toast Of New York and California Chrome were surging late but it was Bayern holding on to win by a nose over Toast Of New York.  California Chrome was a neck further back in 3rd.  There was a Stewards inquiry into the start of the race and in one of the most controversial decisions of the year the results stood as posted. Bayern started 10 times in 2014 with a record of 6-1-1 and he earned over $4 million. Bayern was bred by Helen Alexander, he is owned by Kaleem Shah, and he was trained by Bob Baffert.
