Description: Awesome Baby (KY) DK B/, F, foaled March 5, 2011 (Awesome Again - Miss Attractive, by Running Stag) and jockey Mike Smith went straight to the front and went on to win the 6 1/2 furlong $200K Grade II Santa Ynez Stakes at Santa Anita January 4, 2014. Awesome Baby broke alertly and was pressured by Taste Like Candy from the inside. As these two rounded the far turn Taste Like Candy tried to get past Awesome Baby, but she was simply not good enough today. Awesome Baby hit the top of the lane and started to draw clear. Taste Like Candy did close the gap late but she fell a 1/2 length short at the wire. Crushed Velvet also gave chase but was 2 3/4 lengths further back in 3rd. Awesome Baby has now won 2 of 4 and she has earned $170,250 for her owner Kaleem Shah. She was bred by Nicholas & Debbie Sibilio and she is trained by Bob Baffert.
