Description: Ironicus (KY) GR/RO, C, foaled April 20, 2011 (Distorted Humor - Meghan's Joy, by A.P. Indy) gets his first stakes win with a victory in the 8.5 furlong $300K Grade II Dixie Stakes over 'firm' going on the turf at Pimlico Race Course May 16. 2015. Jockey Javier Castellano settled Ironicus into stride towards the rear of the field along the inside as Skyring set the pace. Ironicus was about 7 lengths back tucked in behind Cage Fighter up the back stretch and the both of them started to gain ground along the inside while the bulk of the field ranged up on the leaders. Cage Fighter got through first spinning for home and Ironicus came after him. Ironicus came off the rail to find room between horses and then sprinted away to win by 2 3/4 lengths. Up With The Birds traveled wide the whole trip and came very wide coming into the stretch to finish 1 1/4 lengths further back in 3rd. Ironicus has been a consistent sort racing in Allowance events until the Dixie, he is now 3-3-1 from 8 starts with earnings of $272,790.
