October, 2010...Marcy Leonard, creative genius awakes...it has been sleeping a long, long time. An artist friend she met told her that she reminded her of Grandma Moses. 'I couldn't wait to Google that when I got home, what does she mean, Grandma Moses !! I come to find out that Grandma Moses didn't start to draw until she was 67, she was a 'primitive painter' which means she did not receive a formal art education. Sounds like me, although I only just turned 50'.
Marcy has a whimsical style, a happy nature, and likes to have fun when she draws. She says it is so rewarding because she can see people smile when they look at her work. She quickly picked up some orders for note cards and birthday cards and holiday cards.
We jump ahead to early spring, 10 days before the Kentucky Derby. She is asked to draw up something for the Triple Crown. She starts to draw her first horse, ever, Animal Kingdom. Now, we find Marcy going to the track, researching her subjects, learning conformation and blazes and blinkers...and you know what happened...she fell in love with the horses and the sport !!
