Description: Tepin (KY) B, M, foaled March 14, 2011 (Bernstein - Life Happened, by Stravinsky) gets her eighth straight victory in the $1 million Grade I Woodbine Racetrack Mile September 17, 2016 over the turf course rated 'good'. Jockey Julien Leparoux and Tepin broke from the gate on top and then settled into stride as Glenville Gardens showed the way. Tepin raced in the fourth spot on the outside up the back stretch, began to move up as they were turning for home, got the lead at the 3/16ths marker and went on to score a 1/2 length victory over Tower Of Texas. Tower Of Texas raced along the rail in 5th up the back stretch, angled out slightly for the drive, had to alter course a couple of times and was surging late. Mutakayyef was also coming late to finish a neck behind Tower Of Texas. Tepin was said to be a little 'weary', she had not raced since her G1 Queen Anne June 14th at Royal Ascot, however, Champions find a way to win. Her determination and class prevailed. Trainer Mark Casse was at the September Sale at Keeneland and his plane was grounded at Blue Grass Airport, alas, he missed the race. "She was obviously all heart, you could see even in the win picture that she's laid it all on the line for you," said Norman Casse, top assistant to his father and Tepin's day-to-day overseer. "I had my reservations coming into the race. I thought we had her cranked up, but I wasn't 100 percent confident. She got tired today but she'll move forward and run a little better race next time. If you watch her Royal Ascot race even, she didn't have to win that day. She laid it on the line, she struggled with the track then and she still won because that's what she is. She's a champion, and that's what champions do." Trainer Mark Casse: "Someone asked me 'Do you get nervous?' And I said, 'I get nervous when she trains, imagine how nervous I get when she runs,'" said Mark Casse, who watched the Woodbine Mile from Churchill Downs. "I thought for a minute she was in trouble. At the quarter pole, I thought she was okay and then towards the end, I was like 'Okay, wire, I'm ready for you'." Tepin is 13-3-1 from 21 starts and she has earned $4,017,918. The Woodbine Mile is a Breeders' Cup Challenge 'Win & You're In' Series races and Tepin will get her entry fees paid towards a start in the 2016 BC Mile November 5th at Santa Anita. She was bred by Machmer Hall and she owned by Robert Masterson. Tepin holds the rare accomplishment of winning in three different countries in one year (USA, Canada, & Great Britain).
