Description: Outwork (KY) B , C, foaled March 8, 2013 (Uncle Mo - Nonna Mia, by Empire Maker) earns his trip to the Kentucky Derby with a hard fought win in the 9 furlong $1 million Grade I Wood Memorial on a 'muddy' track at Aqueduct April 9, 2016. Jockey John Velazquez and Outwork went out to force the pace set by Matt King Coal into the first turn and up the back stretch. Those two dueled for the lead and carved out a 1/4 in 22.91 and the half in 46.93, 3/4's in 1:10.1, the mile in 1:36.30. They raced as a team around the turn and into the stretch. Trojan Nation made up ground around the far turn along the rail from far back and kept that path down the stretch. Outwork got the best of Matt King Coal nearing the furlong marker to edge clear, however, Trojan Nation came screaming along the fence. Outwork won by a head at the line in a final time of 1:49.66. Adventist was making up ground in the middle of the track to get the show 2 1/4 lengths further back. Matt King Coal was edged for the 3rd by neck in 4th. The first four finishers earned Kentucky Derby Points on a scale of 100-40-20-10. Outwork is 3-1-0 from 4 starts and he has earned $701,800 for his owner/breeder Mike Repole at Repole Stables. Outwork is being trained by Todd Pletcher. Drawing by Daily Racing Funnies ®.
