Description: Mastery (KY) DK B/, C, foaled May 3, 2014 (Candy Ride (ARG) - Steady Course, by Old Trieste) remains undefeated and was much the best in the 8.5 furlong $400K Grade II San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita Park March 11, 2017.  Jockey Mike Smith and Mastery went straight to the front and repelled challenges by Gormley and Iliad as they turned for home.  Gormley was the first to back out of it, Iliad posed the danger at the top of the stretch, however, Mastery easily galloped towards the wire to finish 6 3/4 lengths in front of Iliad.  Term Of Art was 1 3/4 lengths further back for the show while Gormley completely the Superfecta.  Mike Smith eased Masterly after the finish and dismounted.  Mastery had to be vanned off and it was reported he sustained a condylar fracture in his left front leg and is set to undergo surgery Monday March 13th.  Mastery has 4 wins from his 4 starts and he has earned $511,200.  He was bred by Stone Farm, is owned by Everett Dobson's Cheyenne Stables, and he is being trained by Bob Baffert.  The first four finishers received Points on a scale of 50-20-10-5 towards a start in the 2017 Kentucky Derby May 6th at Churchill Downs.
