Description: Grand Arch (KY) B , G, foaled February 25, 2009 (Arch - Bacinella, by El Gran Senor) finds the winner's circle in the 8 furlong $1 million Grade I Shadwell Turf Mile over the course rated as yielding at Keeneland October 3, 2015. Jockey Luis Saez had Grand Arch under a tight hold along the fence as he tracked Kelinni and King Kreesa around the Clubhouse turn and up the back stretch. As the field rounded the far turn, Tourist was gaining ground along the outside and The Pizza Man was getting in gear from the back of the pack. Grand Arch was set down for the drive as they turned for home passing Kelinni at the 3/16ths pole. Tourist went to the inside between horse and was gaining ground quickly on Grand Arch. The Pizza Man was was flying on the outside in deep stretch and surging late to just miss. Grand Arch wins by a head over The Pizza Man while Tourist was just a neck back in 3rd. Grand Arch wins his first major race south of his home base at Woodbine. He has shown a likeness for the Keeneland turf having finished no worse than second in six tries. Grand Arch ran 2nd in last year's edition to Champion Wise Dan. Overall, Grand Arch is 7-6-6 from 23 starts and he has earned $1,607,230 for his owners Jim & Susan Hill. He was bred by Hunter Valley Farm & S. Hillen and he is being trained by Brian Lynch. The Shadwell Turf Mile is a Breeders' Cup World Championships Challenge Series race and Grand Arch gets he entry fees paid towards a start in the BC Mile at Keeneland October 31st.
