Description: Carpe Diem (KY) CH , C, foaled February 29, 2012 (Giant's Causeway - Rebridled Dreams, by Unbridled's Song) made his first start as a three year old a winning one with a decisive victory in the 8.5 furlong $350K Grade II Tampa Bay Derby at Tampa Bay Downs March 7, 2015. Regular rider John Velazquez had Carpe Diem stalking the pace set by Divining Rod and My Johnny B Good around the first turn and up the backstretch. As they neared the far turn Carpe Diem angled to the outside and Ami's Flatter started to close ground along the rail. Carpe Diem got to Divining Rod as they past the quarter pole and went on to win by 5 lengths over Ami's Flatter. Divining Rod got the show 2 1/2 lengths behind Ami's Flatter. Carpe Diem was last seen in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Juvenile in his second place finish to Texas Red November 1st at Santa Anita Park. Prior to that effort he won the Grade I Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland October 4th. Carpe Diem is 3-1-0 from 4 starts and he has earned $919,800 for his owners at Winstar Farm and Stonestreet Stables. He picked up 50 Kentucky Derby points to bring his total to 64 points toward a start in the 141st running on the first Saturday in May. Carpe Diem was bred by the Coffee Pot Stables and he is being trained by Todd Pletcher. Drawing by Daily Racing Funnies ®.
