Description: California Chrome (CA) CH , H, foaled February 18, 2011 (Lucky Pulpit - Love the Chase, by Not For Love) arrived in Dubai January 22nd for his anticipated run in the world's richest race, the 2000 meter (9 furlong 202.22 yds, North American's Classic distance is 10 furlongs: 1 1/4 miles) Grade I Dubai World Cup. He will have his first workout about ten days after his arrival. California Chrome will have a prep race February 25th in a 2000 meter handicap. Assistant trainer Alan Sherman, trainer Art Sherman's son, is in Dubai along with groom Raul Rodriguez & exercise rider Dihigi Gladney, Veterinarian Chuck Jenkins also accompanied Team Chrome to Dubai. California Chrome, Champion 3 year old colt and Horse of the Year of 2014 was bred by Steve Coburn and Perry Martin. California Chrome is 10-3-1 from 19 starts and he has earned $6,442,650. As a three year old California Chrome won the California Cup Derby, the Grade II San Felipe, and the Grade I Santa Anita Derby all run at Santa Anita Park. He then won the Grade I Kentucky Derby, the Grade I Preakness Stakes, and missed winning the Belmont Stakes by less than two lengths as he finished fourth behind winner Tonalist, Commissioner, and Medal Count. After a 3 month layoff California Chrome ran 6th behind Bayern in the Grade II Pennsylvania Derby, He then ran third by a nose and a neck to Bayern and Toast Of New York in the 2014 Breeder's Cup Classic at Santa Anita November 1st. California Chrome went down the coast to Del Mar November 29th and won the Grade I Hollywood Derby on the turf. As a four year old, California Chrome ran just twice. He finished 2nd to the two year old Champion colt of 2013 Shared Belief and 2nd to Prince Bishop in the 2015 Dubai World Cup. California Chrome traveled to Great Britain after the World Cup to train for the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, but was scratched a few days prior to the race due to a hoof bruise. He returned to the US to run in July to run in the 2015 Arlington Million in August, however, he was diagnosed with bruising on his cannon bones and was stopped on for the rest of his four year old year and Steve Coburn sold his minority interest in California Chrome to Taylor Made Farm shortly thereafter. California Chrome's ownership is now listed as California Chrome, LLC, comprised of Perry Martin at Martin Racing and Taylor Made Farm.California Chrome made his five year old debut after an 11 month layoff to win the Grade II San Pasqual Stakes at Santa Anita February 9, 2016. Jockey Victor Espinoza has ridden California Chrome in his last 13 races and is expected to be aboard March 26th for the Dubai World Cup.
