Description: California Chrome (CA) CH, H, foaled February 18, 2011 (Lucky Pulpit - Love the Chase, by Not For Love) retires to Taylor Made Farm after a brilliant career.  Taylor Made purchased the High Point Golf Course and changed the name to The Thoroughbred Golf Club at High Point.  The Golf Club will be the staging area for tours with and newly designed Pro Shop and Gift Shop featuring California Chrome and Taylor Made merchandise.  Taylor Made bought High Point in the spring of 2016 and had no plans other than to run a golf course.  With foresight Taylor Made began making plans to accommodate all the California Chrome fans that would be descending on Taylor Made. The Golf Club is set to open March 2017.

California Chrome retires with a record of 16-4-1 from 27 starts and earnings of $14,752,650.  He earned the Eclipse Award 2014 Horse of the Year & Eclipse Award 2014 Champion 3 Year Old Colt.  California Chrome won the 2014 Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes.  His bid for the Triple Crown fell short in the Belmont Stakes.  He finished fourth to Tonalist by less than 2 lengths after stumbling at the start and suffered a gash in right front foot.

California Chrome raced only twice as a four year old.  He ran 2nd in the Grade II San Antonio Stakes and the Grade I Dubai World Cup.

In 2016, California Chrome began his 5 year old year with a victory in the Grade II San Pasqual Stakes at Santa Anita and followed that performance with a victory in a Handicap prep race for his winning effort in Dubai World Cup at Meydan.  California Chrome then ran to victory in the Grade II San Diego Hcp and then won the Grade I Pacific Classic at Del Mar.  He then won the Grade I Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita as he prepared for the Breeders' Cup Classic.  California Chrome and Arrogate battled down the stretch with Arrogate getting the victory by a 1/2 length.  California Chrome the won the Winter Challenge at Los Alamitos, his Southern California base. California Chrome earned the Eclipse Award 2016 Horse of the Year & Eclipse Award 2016 Champion Older Horse.

The 9 furlong $12 million Grade I Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park was California Chrome's last race.  In a much anticipated showdown with Arrogate, California Chrome was a bit hesitant to load.  He had a short run to the first turn from his outside post and was 5 wide going into the Clubhouse turn.  He settled into stride next to Arrogate up the back stretch and when Arrogate went, Chrome has nothing to offer.  California Chrome came out of the race with swelling in his knee, a mild injury which was believed to have happened during loading.  Clearly, California Chrome was compromised with his outside post and injury.  Regular rider Victor Espinoza got him home finishing far back of Arrogate, he checked in 9th.

California Chrome was bred by Steve Coburn and Perry Martin.  Steve Coburn sold his share to Taylor Made and California Chrome is now owned by Chrome LLC.  California Chrome's regular rider was Victor Espinoza and he was trained his entire career by Art Sherman. One of America's legendary horses, California Chrome is standing stud at Taylor Made Farms.
