Description: Arrogate (KY) GR/RO, C, foaled April 11, 2013 (Unbridled's Song - Bubbler, by Distorted Humor) wins the 10 furlong $10 million Grade I Dubai World Cup March 25, 2017 at Meydan Racecourse over a track officially labeled "muddy".  Jockey Mike Smith and Arrogate was off a step slow and then got mauled shortly after the break, he was last during the first 100 yards.  Mike Smith allowed Arrogate to gather himself from there, they traveled wide around the Clubhouse turn and up the back stretch.  As they were rounding the far turn, instead of staying wide, Mike Smith took Arrogate between horses and save valuable ground.  Arrogate bulled his way past Mubtaahij as they straightened for home and was set to down to get after Gun Runner.  Gun Runner had the lead at the top of the stretch and was to be the winner of the Dubai World Cup, he had put away Neolithic and was full of run down the stretch.  Arrogate proving that Champions win regardless of bad post position and bad trips find a way to win, caught Gun Runner at the furlong marker and went by him easily to win by 2 1/4 lengths.  Neolithic was 7 1/4 lengths further back for the show.  Arrogate becomes the world's richest racehorse with earnings of $17,084,600.  He has a race record of 7-0-1 from 8 starts.  He was 3rd in his first start an MSW at Los Alamitos.  Arrogate then won his MSW at Santa Anita and followed that with two AOC (no tag) at SA and Del Mar.  Arrogate shipped to Saratoga to win the Grade I Travers Stakes, came back to Santa Anita to win the Grade I Breeders' Cup Classic to cap his 3 year old year.  He earned an Eclipse Award for Champion Three Year Old Male of 2016.  Arrogate then won the world's richest race, the Grade I Pegasus World Cup January 28th at Gulfstream Park.  Trainer Bob Baffert quotes in his post victory ceremony "...I was thinking, 'Maybe I shouldn't have brought him. Maybe he's getting tired.' ... I thought, 'If he can't win, Mike will take care of him and not abuse him.'"  But as Arrogate worked his way into contention, the Hall of Fame trainer's mood shifted. "I thought then, 'If he wins this race, he's the most incredible horse I've ever seen..."Everybody who was here tonight is going to say, 'I'm glad I was here to see that,'" he said. "If anybody wasn't super impressed with that, they just don't like horse racing. I still can't believe he won the race".  Jockey Mike Smith remarked on the way back to the winner's presentation "I missed the break completely," Smith said. "I said, 'I'm just going to ride him like Zenyatta. I had no choice but to just sit there and let him collect himself."  Jockey Mike was referring to Zenyatta's last race, her head loss to Blame in the 2010 Breeders' Cup Classic, her only loss.  Both rider and trainer gave accolades to assistant trainer Jim Barnes, his wife exercise rider Dana, and exercise rider jockey Martin Garcia and groom Eduardo Luna.  Arrogate was bred by Clearsky and he is owned by Juddmonte Farms.
